Metacognitive Readers!

Learning to be a deep thinker while reading helps us become better readers. We are focusing on all the different reading strategies that help us become thoughtful readers.

So far we have learned about

Metacognition

It is to THINK about our thinking while we read. We practiced this when we read, Fly Away Home by making a 'real reading salad.'

Visualization

Using imagination while reading and creating a movie in our minds of what the book is sharing helps us remember what is being said.

Visualizing has also made us realize how important adjectives are to include in our writing!

Schema

Our thoughts, feelings, opinions and experiences all wrapped up into our brains. Everyone has a unique schema. We use our background knowledge to help us make better sense of the text.

Here are some pictures of us practicing metacognition with wordless stories.
